Hay Rides, Harvest Days and a Halloween Night Downtown: Making the Most of Fall Weekends in Plant City
There's a moment every October when you step outside in the morning and the air feels different. Not cold, exactly. This is Florida. But lighter. The humidity backs off a little, the afternoons stop feeling like a steam room, and suddenly a Saturday outdoors sounds like a good idea again.
That's the season we're in right now, and Plant City makes the most of it. If you've been looking for a reason to get out of the house this month, here are a couple of local favorites worth putting on the calendar.
Harvest Days at Keel Farms
Out on Thonotosassa Road, Keel Farms hosts its Harvest Days every Saturday and Sunday in October, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There's a corn maze, a pumpkin patch with pumpkin painting, hay rides, local vendors and food trucks, and seasonal wines and ciders for the grown-ups.
Admission is free and no tickets are required. Parking is $10, and hay ride wristbands are $5 and good all day. The farm is at 5202 Thonotosassa Road, and dogs are welcome, which is always a nice touch.
What I love about an afternoon like this is how unhurried it is. You wander, you pick a pumpkin, you run into someone you haven't seen since last spring. It's a small-town kind of Saturday, and it's only a few minutes from downtown.
Last Friday goes spooky
Downtown's monthly Last Friday celebration is leaning all the way into the season this month. Plant City Main Street's "Jeepers Creepers" Last Friday is set for Friday, October 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. at McCall Park, 100 N. Collins St.
The listing promises a Jeep show, the Main Street Kids Zone, food trucks, and local artists and makers selling handmade goods. It's free, it's rain or shine, and costumes are encouraged. If you've never been to a Last Friday, this is a fun one to start with. Grab dinner from a food truck, stroll the historic downtown blocks, and let the evening unfold.
As with any event, it's worth checking Plant City Main Street's website or Facebook page the week of, just in case anything changes.
What the market feels like this fall
People ask me all the time, "So, how's the market?" Here's the honest answer for this time of year: fall tends to be a calmer stretch. The summer rush has passed, the holidays haven't started yet, and the people out looking at homes right now are usually doing it with real purpose.
For buyers, that can mean a little more breathing room to look carefully and ask good questions. For homeowners thinking about selling, it's a good season to get organized and make a plan without pressure, whether you list this fall or wait until after the new year.
Every neighborhood and price range behaves a little differently, though. If you're curious about what's happening on your street specifically, that's a conversation worth having with real local numbers in front of you, not a headline.
Enjoy the season
Whatever your plans are this month, I hope you get out and enjoy it. This is one of the best times of year to live here, and some of my favorite community moments happen on ordinary fall weekends just like these.
